The eighth generation is the current generation of video game consoles, following the previous seventh generation: Nintendo’s Wii, Sony’s PlayStation 3, and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. This generation will include the Wii U, which was released in the fourth quarter of 2012. The PlayStation 4 officially announced on February 20, 2013, and is anticipated for a Christmas release and the successor to the Xbox 360 (code-named “Durango”) is rumored to be released in late 2013.
